About Sound is back, baby! For how long, I don’t know, but it was never meant to be here. And neither were you, or me, or any of us, or triple cooked chips. Not that I’m suffering from existential anxiety or anything.
The first song ever reviewed on About Sound was Like A Fever by Jack Perrett, way way back in 2018, so it’s fitting that the rebirth of this blog should begin by featuring Perrett’s new (is 2021 new?) project Eurekas, a band born out of COVID (sorry) song swapping between Perrett and Dan Burridge, who at the time was on bass duties for Jack, whilst also starting up his own solo project. Anyway, that’s enough of backstory, what about the music?
Telling On Me, written and sung by Burridge is Eurekas sixth single and sees the four-piece take a shift in pace from their previous releases and although melodic guitars and Burridge’s introspective lyrics (always with a splash of playful humour) are still at the core, this has a softer, gentler and warmer sound than the more boisterous tunes we have heard from them previously.
Think pre acid house inspired Primal Scream, the jangly side of the Stone Roses and 60’s Merseybeat and you’ll get an idea of what to expect in this delightful, nah, glorious two and half minutes of indie pop, produced by Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard). Telling On Me has already been approved by Adam Walton and Newport City Radio’s Indie Show and I’m more than happy to add About Sound to this list and it’s only been out two days. This is one of the best songs to come out of Wales all year. And the Face don’t lie! Go check it out!
‘Telling on Me’ is out now on all of the usual streaming platforms on Cupertino Records. Give them a follow on socials to keep up to date with all thing Eurekas
