Emmy Seren – I Tried To Tell Him

Oh to be young, talented and enthusiastic. Yet to be trodden down by the weight of the world, free from the stresses of the pressures that come with being an adult, even if you’re not even a proper adult, or have no intention of ever being the kind of proper adult that existed pre 21st Century.

Emmy Seren is all of those things above, the one’s I mentioned in the first sentence, before things took a slightly darker path. Look, you should know by now that this blog is as much an insight into my mind’s condition as it is a music blog. I’d turn your attention elsewhere, if there was anyone else who could be arsed to do this.

At just 17, Emmy is part of a new wave of exciting young artists turning heads in Newport, a city that loves to support and nurture musicians. It is a city famed for it’s 90s scene (I know, I’m bored with all that, too), but many of whose inhabitants still, still, refuse to believe the current scene is thriving. Different to those halcyon years, sure, but thriving all the same.

I Tried To Tell Him is a remarkably mature single for one so young, and although that sounds a little patronising, it is easy to lose sight of how young 17 actually is. The production is typically great by Jon Greening (the piano and harmonies are gorgeous), but when you strip it down to the fundamentals of her acoustic guitar and vocals, you’ll find a songwriter full of imagination and uniqueness, keen to explore wherever her mind takes her with her inventive lyrics and mesmerising vocal rhythms.

So, young ✅️ talented ✅️ enthusiastic? Well she’s always teased the release of the follow up single. So there’s your third ✅️
