Hairdye – Sleep My Life Away

I’ve been in the same job for nearly as long as I can remember and longer than I care to really think about, because I’ll start revisiting questions that give me answers I’m not necessarily happy with. But change is unavoidable, even when you don’t want it, dead against it even. Change, for me has come in the shape of an office relocation, resulting in public transport, y’know, buses and trains.

So when a young band open with “Stuck at the bus stop, same time same place” I’d normally be inclined to roll my eyes, but actually….

And then I listened to the song again and realised the lyrics are actually “stuck in your bus stop” and said bus stop is actually a metaphor rather than a literal bus stop. The opening paragraph now looks like a waste of time, but actually…

Hairdye are a slacker grunge Newport band consisting of Penny (vocals/guitar), Tom (guitar) and Rhys (drums). Full of the gusto and energy  you’d expect from young punks, but with an extra edge that suggests Newport is merely the first stop on the line.

As this song finished, Spotify took my straight to their previous release Drop Out, “Don’t wanna live the adult life, don’t wanna grow up”.

Me neither.

“Sleep My Life Away” is out now on all of the usual streaming platforms
